I’ve moved my blog….from now on, you can catch me here.
Ok. So I am seriously contemplating painting my dining & living room – as in immediately. Am I crazy? …..little bit.
It was my husband’s idea to paint now. At first, I was like no way! I was actually talking my husband out of painting…..what is wrong with this picture? Then I started thinking about it….and well, now I’m kinda tempted. November is almost over and I still have to clean & decorate my entire house. Like I said, crazy.
The thing is that our house, although I love it, does not get much sunlight. And for the past 5 years I’ve had to listen to my husband and my Mother telling my how dark my house was. You see, I love color. LOVE! So when we moved in, we painted our open concept living/kitchen/dining room a turquoise blue(which I still love) and a dark brown(now…not so much). Not exactly bright colors. After 5 yrs, I am finally starting to agree with my family, and am ready to make a change.
The plan would be to just remove the brown for now, and then later after the holidays are over, I could really get to work. I have plans in my head for an accent wall behind the door and maybe something in the entry. But for now it would simply be picking one color to replace the dark brown that is light and also goes with the still present turquoise. I’m leaning towards a pale gray, which seems to be replacing beige as the new neutral.
I usually ponder paint colors for ever before purchasing, but if we are going to do this, we have to do it now! Oh the pressure! Part of me is excited while the other part of me is like “Are you crazy!”. I’ll keep you posted on what side wins.
Ever since I moved out on my own and had my own Christmas tree to decorate, I’ve used multi-colored lights. It’s what my Mom always used. It’s what they used in most of the old movies and Christmas cartoon specials that I watched. Multi-colored lights seem to be unmistakably Christmas. As a child, I swore that I would never, ever use the “boring” white Christmas lights on my tree.
However, this year I find myself really, really wanting to go with the white lights. For some people who know me, this is almost shocking news. Seriously. I’m thinking of going with all clear lights on the main floor, and then all multi-colored lights downstairs in the rec room area…where most of our entertaining actually happens. It would give my upstairs a more formal setting and downstairs a more fun, child-like setting. Thoughts?
Last weekend I started decorating the outside of my home for Christmas. A little early perhaps, but the weather was so unbelievably mild that I thought I should take advantage of it.
We’ve been living in our house for about 5 years now and every year I’ve pretty much decorated the outside the same way. This year I really wanted a change. I’m not posting any pics until it’s completely finished, but this is just a little hint…..
….stay tuned! 🙂
Remember that old filing cabinet I was working on in the Summer? Here is a reminder of what it looked like before…
And here is what it looks like now!
This project has been done for quite some time now, but I’ve been holding off posting pics because…….I’ve been invited to have a regular column in Bread n’ Molasses magazine! I used the above cabinet as my first feature and didn’t feel right posting pics here until I knew the mag went to print. For more details on its transformation, go to www.breadnmolasses.com and check out the online version of the magazine. I’m on page 30, but be sure to browse the entire issue.
I’m a bit nervous, but mostly excited about this new venture!
I’m a bit late on sharing some Halloween pics, but better late than never right?
For Halloween, I basically just add a few things to my Fall decorations. I must say I am lovin’ the chalkboard!
This year the whole family each carved our own pumpkin, which I think we will now make a tradition. Mine is at the top, my husbands at the bottom, with the kids in between. In years past I’ve tried more intricate designs but this year I did something more simple and classic Halloween.
A closer look at my husband’s creation. He was beyond proud. 🙂
A night shot…I apologize for it’s poor quality.
Now that the Halloween decorations are gone & packed away, I can’t wait to decorate for Christmas!
